Conference Speakers / Presenters

Santo J. Aurelio, Ed.D.


Dr. Aurelio received his education at Harvard and Boston Universities, and has taught English literature, composition, grammar, and medical and court reporting-related terminology at Newbury and Quincy Colleges and other institutions across the country.

His extensive résumé includes thirty-four years' experience in court reporting, and from 1997 to 2000 he recorded tapes for the blind and dyslexic in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

He is the author of How to Say It and Write It Correctly NOW, currently in its second edition, and since 2002 has been president of Logophile Press.

Robert A. Burgess


After graduating from Indiana's Vincennes University, Detective Burgess began his career in law enforcement, working with both county and state departments. In due course he began specializing in drug-related cases, performing in both uniformed and undercover capacitites.

Robert is currently in his ninth year with the Indiana State Police, and is a detective with the Clandestine Laboratory Team, a task force which focuses on methamphetamine issues.
Catherine L. Collins


Lieutenant Collins is a 29-year veteran of the Logansport Police Department, and has been in charge of its Juvenile Investigations Division for over two decades. Prior to that she was a narcotics investigator, having gone undercover after just two years with the department. She is a graduate of Indiana University and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, and is a charter member of both the Indiana Drug Enforcement Association, where she serves on its board, and the National Narcotic Officers Associations Coalition. She also instructs at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

Cathi is the proud mother of a Purdue graduate, and has two other children now in college. She is affectionately known as "Mom" to her colleagues.

Bruce C. Embrey


The Honorable Bruce C. Embrey received his B.S. from Indiana University in 1972, followed by his J.D. from Indiana University, Indianapolis in 1976. He has served as Judge of the Miami County Superior and Circuit Courts from November, 1976 until retirement from the Circuit Court bench in November, 2002.

Judge Embrey has been a member of various judicial organizations and served on many Boards. Presently, he serves as City Attorney and Utility Attorney in Peru, and serves as a Senior Judge, primarily in Allen County, Indiana. He has also been known to trade in his robe and business suit for his Ringmaster's attire. Judge Embrey is a member and on the Board of Directors of the Circus City Festival, Inc., and Ringmaster for the Peru Amateur Circus.

Karon Etienne


Karon is president of Diversified Consultations, a training and support organization based in Washington, D.C.

With 20-plus years in the training arena, Karon has developed the ability to communicate technical terms in everyday language, thereby allowing computer users of all ages and skill sets to accomplish their desired goals.

This will be Karon's fifth year presenting at AAERT Conferences.

  She will lead a Microsoft Word practicum on Tuesday morning.

Lillian I. Morson


Lillian Morson is an NCRA-certified reporting instructor and an experienced language lecturer who has worked with court reporting associations and schools across the country to improve reporters' skills.  She has been editor of the "Teachers Workshop" feature for NCRA's Journal of Court Reporting, and has served on that Association's Teacher Certification Committee.

The author of Morson's English Guide for Court Reporters, she received her B.A. degree from Montclair State Teachers College in New Jersey, and has both taught English and chaired the English departments at Roberts-Walsh Business School and the Academy of Business Careers, also in New Jersey.

Randel Raison, CET**D


Randel is president of All Professionals Litigation Support Team, Inc. (APLST), which provides transcription and support for clients such as Citibank, Shell Oil, Pitney Bowes, CenterPoint Energy, and USA Today.  He has written papers on the Internet and electronics in the legal profession, and received AAERT's 2007 Transcriber of the Year award.  Randel resides in Houston.

  He will lead a WordPerfect practicum on Tuesday morning.

David B. Tetrick


David Tetrick earned his B.S. degree in business from Fairmont State College in West Virginia.  He is in his twelfth year with the FBI, assigned to NICS, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

He is currently a Liaison Specialist, advising state agencies on issues related to firearms background checks throughout the country.

David also works with the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS), the largest division within the FBI, at the CJIS headquarters in West Virginia.  This division includes the Crime Reporting and Information Centers, providing technical services such as IAFIS, the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System.
