Second AAERT Executive Forum

AAERT's second Executive Forum held on March 13, and 14, 2015, at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel, Crystal City, Virginia, was once again a perfect venue for the owners and executives of eReporting and eTranscription corporate members.

 

The Executive Forum is structured to encourage owners and executives to exchange information and network with each other. This year the goal was to assist the attendees in confronting the challenges and changes heading our way.

Friday, March 13th began with lunch and conversation as to what we could expect over the following two days.

Our first full session began at 1 pm and was titled "Technology that WILL Change our Industry" presented by Fraser Wyatt, For the Record; Betsy Ertel, SpeedType; and, Erik Lige, TheRecordXchange. These presenters brought forward their vision of transcription in the future. This session was most informative and thought-provoking.

Our second session of the day was a very candid, eye-opening presentation by Jeffrey Newman, Newman Sage Consulting and Gregg Poss, Senior Director at the DC Courts, titled "What the Courts Want from eReporters." This brought us back to center when the presenters addressed timely and accurate transcripts, reporters' professionalism and punctuality, technology requirements, and keyword indices in all transcripts. Everyone agreed these issues are a direct reflection on us as professionals.

Saturday, March 14th began with the presentation "eReporting Equipment and Services" and was presented by Tim Atkinson, Free State Reporting and Lisa Dees, DRS Connected. The equipment demonstrations by both presenters and discussions around needed services were very informative and helpful for the attendees.

The second session of the day was the keynote speaker, C. Alexander Hewes, Jr., Esquire, who spoke on the W-2/1099 issues facing our industry today. His experience is extensive and his knowledge on this subject is unmatched. His presentation was extremely comprehensive and at times intense. The attendees were captivated and engaged during the entire presentation. This session was clearly the most attended and was more than informative.

Buck Ewing, Cambridge Transcriptions and President of AAERT gave us the "Update on the Industry" describing the progression of recording technology and where we are today. This presentation was also an interactive presentation, which is always enjoyable for the attendees.

The last two sessions presented by Tonie M. Wallace, Court Reporting Consultants, LLC discussed "Building Your Company" and focused on the change in the industry and the need for building better teams to accommodate the work. This presentation touched on all the areas business owners need to implement in order to gain market share and establish "a client for life."

Another high point of the Forum was the Networking Cocktail Hour sponsored by For the Record (FTR), which allowed the attendees just the right atmosphere to wind down and share their experiences with each other. This Executive Forum was a resounding success!
