Our Most Valuable Commodity – The AAERT Membership

by Jen Metcalf Razzino, CER

I am Jen Metcalf Razzino, CER, and I serve as the chair of the AAERT Membership Committee. As a part of the Membership Committee, I work with two other skilled AAERT members, Lisa Dees and Deborah Raeder-Allen, CER, CET. What do we do? We work hard as a committee to discover new and creative ways to motivate new professionals to join AAERT and to retain our current members. Members are what drive our Association because they are the most important aspect of AAERT. You, our members, are the reason why AAERT is here, and we strive to be the Association you need us to be. The Membership Committee knows that our members are the faces of AAERT. We love our members. They mean so much to us that I am sending each one of you a virtual hug. I’ll give you a second to enjoy it, and here it comes--HUG!!

What is the Membership Committee, and what do we do? We work to discover new ways to encourage those who have not joined AAERT yet to explore membership. AAERT offers many benefits to its members including our new Learning Management System, or LMS, which promotes earning CEU credits needed to retain certification. Our Committee is a hard-working group. We are always brainstorming to explore new ways to grow the membership.

At times our meetings run wild and the ideas flow. Insert a drum roll here because I’m about to tell you something new and exciting. Perhaps our top-secret project will pique your interest. If you are planning on attending our annual conference this year in Atlanta, the great reveal will take place there. If you are unable to attend the conference, the AAERT Membership Committee will be letting everyone know at the same time via social media. Here’s a spoiler alert. We love when you invite friends to join our Association. That is all we can say at the moment. We hope you are now at the edge of your seat wanting to know more. “All in good time Watson, all in good time.” One more hint -- the more friends you have who join you, the better it will be for you, our cherished members. No more hints now.

We are always striving to set higher goals and create better ways to reach out to potential members and to keep our current AAERT members. Our Committee has telephonic conferences once a month to brainstorm, tweak ideas, and plan new strategies. As a committee, we love taking ideas that members have shared with us and putting them into action. If you or someone you know is interested, the AAERT Membership Committee is always looking for fresh viewpoints, ideas, and volunteers. Does this interest you but you aren’t sure what is involved? If so, email me at jen.razzino@aaert.org. Even if you are not sure you want to join the AAERT Membership Committee but have a great idea and want to share, my email door is always open. By the way, you can earn CEU credits for being an active member of an AAERT committee.

Thank you for taking the time to read about our recent AAERT Membership Committee projects. The Committee is always excited when we have a new mission that is about to take off. Stay tuned for more information about our two projects that are in the works. We hope to see you at our upcoming conference. Please feel free to approach us, meet and greet, and chat about any new ideas or suggestions that you have. See you all in Atlanta!
