3. Courts operate on relatively rigid time frames. Arriving late -- or worse, not showing up at all -- to a reporting engagement is clearly unacceptable. Many people are involved, and they depend upon you, not only to be present, but to be fully set up and ready to proceed when the matter is gaveled to order. Scheduling discovery depositions is often quite difficult, especially when the deponent is a professional whose own business calendar must be accomodated, or where travel is involved. Your reputation for reliable, consistent performance is critical. A couple of "Sorry I'm late; had to take my daughter to soccer practice," or "Wow, I could have sworn it was at 10:00, not 9:00," or "Gee, must have left that cable at home," can quickly become career-enders. |
