SOUND BYTES - Aug 2016

Join the Hunt

As the newly elected president of AAERT, it is an honor for me to assume this office, and I pledge to do my best to further the mission of AAERT. My intent is to share my personal message with each of you as members over my term as president.

Burn, Baby, Burn!

The heat was on at AAERT 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona from June 22 to 25. The temperature soared to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, but it was a dry heat as some local resident AAERT Board members put it. I especially thank local member Susan Leong, CET, who gave of her time late in the day to take a few of us on a walking tour of downtown Phoenix, both calming and beautiful as the sun rays bathed the city in desert hues.

Blazing Sessions

The Saturday session, June 25, started off with a delicious breakfast of considerable variety. At precisely 8:30 a.m. we all buckled down for an intense yet fun session with teacher extraordinaire, Margie Wakeman Wells. Margie of Margie Holds Court always keeps her audience fully engaged when discussing grammar and punctuation rules for transcripts.

A Transcriber's Journey to AAERT

I began to be interested in legal transcription after a friend had started her own business transcribing. I enrolled in the same school, a two-year correspondence course to learn legal transcription. We were taught the "old way" of reading steno notes and transcribing them into a legal document. I was never even aware of transcribing digital recordings.
