Education:  The Path to Success
by Betsy Ertel, Education Committee Chair

Greetings to all from the Education Committee!

We have been hard at work with never a dull moment. For the past two years the Education Committee has been responsible for providing content material for our web-based Learning Management System (LMS). This allows our members to acquire the necessary CEUs at their convenience. The LMS is also connected to the Your Membership software which records the concurrent totals for each member under their AAERT user profile. Members no longer have to search for how many CEUs they need to acquire to keep up their hard-earned credentials. Our LMS has grown from 0-23 courses to access from your chair. It continues to be a work in progress for our members as well as nonmembers needing professional growth options. The Committee is constantly reviewing videos to see if they qualify for content material. Everything is based on our Educational CEU Program Rules which can be found on our website under the “Education” tab. You will find many more continuing education topics in that column.

The Education Committee also has been diligently working to approve different educational entities to post on our website for the convenience of our future students and those wishing to brush up on some skill sets for enhancing their professional duties. We have more online courses in the pipeline for approval status, and this portion will be constantly growing to serve our members and nonmembers striving to become a part of our industry. You will find the list of approved schools here. If you would like to be considered for a listing with your curriculum, please contact, Education Committee Chair.

Education has also reached out to the Stenotype community to become a part of our fast-moving industry. Our latest project is to provide those who utilize this methodology of court reporting another avenue to exercise their hard-earned skill sets in capturing the record. This, too, is a work in progress with a lot of follow-up conversations to bridge the gap for those interested persons.

As stated above, the wheel never stops spinning for the Education Committee. Educating our membership is an immense and serious commission to fulfill, and our committee members are never bored. We strive to bring you the best because that is what you deserve. Until next time, keep reading our newsletter and stay apprised of committee updates!
