A Peak Into The Past Year
by Jen Metcalf Razzino, CER, Membership Committee Chair

Hello, again wonderful members of AAERT! Can you believe that it has already been a year since we’ve had the chance to catch up? The Membership Committee is here to give you an idea of what we have been up to. So, grab a cup of hot tea, put your feet up, and relax while you read all about the Committee. The Membership Committee has been very active and hard at work since the last time we had a chance to catch up. At this time, the Committee has gained two new members and is always looking for individuals who want to make a difference.

Allow me to provide a little background on what this Committee does. The Membership Committee holds monthly teleconferences for about 30 to 45 minutes to brainstorm and discuss fun and exciting new ways to help our current members and how to entice new professionals to join the organization. At times, we think of an idea that is outside the purview of our committee but that does not stop us. We simply pass the idea along to the committee that might be able to use it. We share because after all, our members are the most important part of the organization. We are also responsible for contacting members who might have let their membership lapse for whatever reason. It is important for us to know why because that helps educate us on how we can better support our current membership. There is a constant need for change in our profession, and AAERT strives to keep up with that need for change.

Now if you are thinking, “How does the Membership Committee help with that?” In the past year, we have started several initiatives. One example was our Refer a Friend program that was in effect after the 2018 conference. AAERT is gaining new members every day, and with the gain comes an increase of knowledge from all those professional individuals. Many of our current members took advantage of that promotion, and in return wonderful new members have joined our growing association. Another example that many of you participated in was a three-part survey. A big shout-out to everyone who took the time to fill out the surveys. Those are so important in helping the organization to see what changes might be needed in the future and to help with the current and ever-changing profession. The organization was able to gain so much knowledge from the responses. Steps have already been taken to put some of that knowledge to use. We know our members are hard-working and busy professionals and we appreciate all the time and effort you take out of your day to be a part of AAERT.

The Membership Committee is constantly looking out for our members. Our profession is always changing and advancing, and it is important for our organization to help assist the members as they grow and change with each new day. The thought of “How can we make AAERT better just for you lovely members?” is always on our minds. By the way, if you are reading this and saying to yourself, “Oh, I’ve got a lot of ideas,” then you should consider joining the Committee! Feel free to email me at jen.razzino@aaert.org, and let’s start working to get you on a committee where you feel you can help! With that, I will sign off. So until we meet again, members, remember you are all amazing, and it is because of you that AAERT is the organization it is today.

Jen Razzino is a CER, current AAERT Director, and Chair of the AAERT Membership Committee.
